“You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Meet Sarah

I embarked on my counseling journey with two core objectives: to assist others in enhancing their quality of life and to support them in becoming the best versions of themselves. Having personally experienced the challenges of using alcohol and drugs to self-medicate and cope with life's difficulties, I possess firsthand insight into what many individuals endure. Initially, it may seem like a relief or a temporary solution, but over time, substance abuse can devastate families, relationships, education, work, and ultimately, entire lives. This cycle often leads to a destructive pattern where individuals use substances to suppress unwanted feelings, thoughts, and memories, only to find themselves trapped in a snowball effect of escalating use. This lifestyle is unsustainable, and there is a healthier way forward.

Living with ADHD and being neurodivergent from childhood, I have faced societal stigma and judgment, even from those whom we seek help from. I understand the hesitation to open up and the fear of being judged. My clients often express sentiments like, “How do you understand me so well?” or “I feel like you just get it.” This connection stems from my genuine understanding of their struggles, which is why I chose this profession. I aim to be a source of support where individuals feel heard and respected, especially when discussing mental health and addiction.

Having navigated interpersonal relationships with individuals experiencing alcohol and substance use disorders, I recognize the impact on both the person with the addiction and their loved ones. This understanding drives my empathetic approach, and I am committed to supporting my clients and their families. Everyone deserves to be heard, respected, and provided with the assistance they seek to make positive changes. My trauma-informed approach views clients as individuals coping with life’s challenges, often feeling unable to do so without substances. I have witnessed how recovery can lead to new beginnings and a fulfilling life for individuals and their loved ones.

I hold formal post-secondary education in Addictions Counseling, Criminal Psychology and Behavior, supplemented by ongoing training in various counseling skills and intimate partner violence. With years of experience in individual and group counseling and case management, I offer my clients professionalism and expertise. My personal interest in spirituality, philosophy, and life's meaning enables me to help clients focus on their needs and strengths, guiding them toward achieving their life goals through recovery. I assist clients in developing self-awareness and reflection, understanding the reasons behind their substance use, and building new skills and healthier habits for a transformative life change.

Through dedication and effort, recovery is attainable. I am here to support you in learning how to cope healthily with stress and day-to-day challenges, adopting a healthier lifestyle, and succeeding in your recovery journey.
